The BushiSwords Bamboo Snake Katana is a beautifully hand-forged Japanese sword. It is made of high-quality 1095 carbon steel and is differentially hardened. This makes the Bamboo Snake Katana ideal for cutting practice (tameshigiri). It is folded 10 times into 1024 layers, giving its blade a fantastic appearance. It also has a bo-hi (groove) to give it a great balance.

We have also differentially hardened the Bamboo Snake Katana using a traditional clay method. Clay is applied to the back edge of the sword. When the sword is removed from the oven and cooled, the clay on the back slows down the cooling process. The cutting edge cools very quickly. This creates a very hard cutting edge and a flexible back edge. This creates a strong sword, suitable for cutting practice.
The Bamboo Snake Katana is then hand-polished in no fewer than 14 different steps. This beautifully accentuates the hamon (the forging line) and the folding pattern. The blade is forged in the Shinogi Zukuri style.
The sword is finished with high-quality fittings in a snake motif, which gives this katana its name. The tsuka (handle) is made of genuine rayskin (Samegawa) and is wrapped in black ito. The full tang construction is secured with two mekugi (bamboo pins). The sword can be disassembled.
The saya (sheath) is made of hardwood. A high-quality sageo is wrapped around the kurigata (knob on the sheath).
A Japanese sword is made of carbon steel, which is not stainless. Therefore, to keep your katana in optimal condition, it is necessary to maintain it.
